• Shanghai is one of China''s biggest and busiest port, most important industrial and commercial center. Its industrial products rank the best in quality in China.   • The great forerunner of China''s Democratic Revolution, Dr Sun Yatsen, and his wife Madame Soong Ching Ling lived and worked here during the revolution from 1918 to 1924.   • Longhua Temple was built in the year 242. It is the oldest and largest temple in Shanghai. It maintains the original features of the Song Dynasty''s Jialan Zan Sect seven-hall design. In the temple are kept Buddhist scripture, gold seals and Buddhist statues of the Tang, Five, Ming and Qing Dynasties. On every New Year''s Eve the ceremony of "Striking the Longhua Evening Bell" is conducted here and is well known within China and abroad. The temple is also famous for its pagoda and its peach blossoms.

  • The 3.1-mile-long Nanjing Road is the busiest commercial center in Shanghai. Everyday more than 1 million people pay a visit. It is an ideal place for shopping, eating and recreation.

  • This modern and top-notch museum contains more than 120,000 Chinese art pieces and archeological findings. Permanent exhibits feature bronzes, ceramics and paintings, among other artifacts. It also includes a library with 20,000 books, a conservation laboratory and a lecture hall. Audio tour is available in English and Japanese. The building itself is an architectural showpiece, resembling an ancient tripod when viewed sideways. The rooftop with glassed dome is modeled on a Han Dynasty mirror.

  • The Yufo (Jade Buddha) Temple was built in 1882, but it still remains in perfect condition as a sanctuary of Zen Buddhism. The temple derived its name from a jade statue of Sakyamuni from Myanmar. The Buddha is in graceful posture and has a serene look on his face.

  • The Bund is an area located along the banks of the Huangpu River. The picturesque Bund is the symbol of Shanghai.

  • The Oriental Pearl TV Tower is the new landmark in Shanghai, facing the Bund across the Huangpu River at Lujiazui. At a height of 1,535 feet, it is the tallest TV tower in Asia. An elevator whisks visitors to the tower''s observational deck at a height of 863 feet, where it has the best panoramic view of Shanghai. The tower is equipped with tourist service facilities, including eateries, shops, recreational centers and a hotel.

  • The 4.7 mile-long Yangpu Bridge and the 5.1-mile-long Nanpu Bridge are both double cable-stayed long-span suspension bridges. They are among the longest bridges in the world.
